Hedgehog

Rootling along, snuffling about,
Wary of danger in a world of peril,
Of threats, bigger and faster.

Vigilant, aware, cautiously
Keeping to the shadows, seeking food and shelter.
Feeling safe: not safe: who knows?

Sensing danger, curling up tightly,
Spines repel cold curious noses.
Is it enough?
